Ever have one of those days that seems to just snowball?
You stub your toe getting out of bed, or hit traffic on the way to work and then it’s just one crappy thing after the next.
Haven’t they developed a cure for that yet?
Well, kind of…
I practice something I call “Intentional Mornings.” It’s a tool that you can use to keep yourself out of the energetic shit-storm as much as possible.
All it takes is a brief connection to self before you actually ‘start’ your day.
This can be so many different things…
- A morning meditation practice (even 5 minutes can shift your day)
- A gratitude list
- A walk outside
- 60 seconds in bed where you take the time to choose one good feeling thought before you get up
The kicker is you have to do this intentional thing BEFORE you check your email or click into Facebook.
BEFORE you swipe or scroll or allow anyone else’s agenda or reality to sink into your psyche.
I know, that sounds unlikely. Some may say, impossible. It also probably seems like a few minutes on Facebook first, can’t do that much harm, but the truth is it really does.
It’s a momentary decision about how you start your day that sets the tone for the next 14-18 hours of your life.
When you go to the internet before you tap into your own thoughts, ideas and awareness, you are forfeiting your energy to the realm of ‘Reaction’ rather than ‘Intention’. That means the rest of your day is inclined toward reactivity.
Don’t knock it till you try it.
