Title: How to nurture your list
You’ve probably heard this buzz word a lot…
“Nurture” your people.
Nurture your list.
Nurture your audience.
What does this mean?
To ‘Nurture’ means deliver first and ask/invite later.
We are in a beautiful dynamic relationship with each person in our circle of influence.
We are building a connection, showcasing the power of our work, bringing new ideas to the tables, and ideally down the road inviting our raving fans to become clients and customers.
The key to this is that we have to deliver enough magic, free gifts, invite-free content, and a window into exactly what we do, so that people can get to know, like, and trust us.
What I see all too often is people using their email lists to only invite…
Asking them to come to a workshop.
Asking them to buy the book.
Asking them to show up, click, buy, or schedule.
Without enough contribution delivered first.
But how do we nurture without giving it all away?
It’s not complicated..
What does someone need to know to be ready to work with you?
What do you find yourself talking about in conversation, free workshops, or speaking gigs?
What is the big WHY? Why is your work important?
If we give context, stories, new perspectives, or hot tips, without giving away all the ‘How To’ steps, then we are delivering something powerful without giving our people a laundry list of things to go and do.
If we give away the ‘How’ then they may not need our support.
If we give them powerful reasons ‘Why’ this work would be so valuable to them, then they are left…
- Seeing their lives in a new way
- Seeing us as an expert who can help
- Sitting with the tension of whether or not they want support with this right now
That’s much different than having a list of actions to go and take, and then come find us again if it doesn’t work out.
You would be amazed by how subtle this is, because a perspective shift on its own can feel like we got something huge.
It isn’t easy to see our lives, or our struggles in a new way without someone pointing it out to us.
The perspective shift is a big takeaway.
I have written probably over a thousand emails since starting my business.
It’s one of the bigger reasons people hire me to support them in growing their businesses.
Nurture content is the difference between a warm list who can’t wait to hear about your next offering, and a list that keeps kicking you into the promo folder, or having folks unsubscribe.
I set up my nurture content months in advance and only think about it once a quarter or so.
As I’m writing this, I’m also writing three other pieces to send out over the next two months.
Does it make a difference to you when I wrote this?
Does it give you a new perspective to begin seeing your marketing through?
Does that position me as someone who can help?
You got this.
Keep going.
Your people can’t wait to hear what you’re sharing with them next, just give them some juicy tidbits in between the invitations and sales.
If you’d like support with creating Nurture Content, I’ve got your back.
